
Melissa Crystal O'Neil was born on July 12, 1988[1]. She is a Canadian actor and singer. O'Neil was the first Canadian woman to win Canadian Idol's third season, which aired in 2005. O'Neil is known for her performances on Syfy's sci-fi series Dark Matter. O'Neil was popular for her character in The Rookie as Officer Lucy Chen. O'Neil was voted in the bottom two and three of the finals. The judges urged viewers to vote for contestants who resembled Melissa who was clearly a singer with the best vocal abilities. From then on, O'Neil never fell back to the bottom of the list after giving consistently excellent performances, with the judge Zack Werner declaring that she was "a threat to win the entire contest". O'Neil, along with Rex Goudie, made it into the finals on September 7, 2005. Werner, a judge, famously declared that the headlines for the following day's newspaper will be "The King [Kalan Porter] has passed away. The Queen will live forever." O'Neil defeated Goudie during the grand finale results ceremony on September 14, 2005 . He went on to be crowned the third Canadian Idol.
